Postby ericleahy on Thu Feb 18, 2010 4:49 pm

Hi all,

Can someone please help me to finger this problem I am having. I have just done a change over of IOS on our 6500 we have. I downloaded the file ok from a tftp server and everything went well. So I added the command to tell it were to boot from "boot system flash sup-bootflash:( file name).bin". That looks ok to me so I save the configs and reloaded the system to see if everything went true ok and this is what I go when the system tried to boot up again,

System Bootstrap, Version 7.1(1)
Copyright (c) 1994-2001 by cisco Systems, Inc.
c6k_sup2 processor with 131072 Kbytes of main memory

Autoboot executing command: "boot bootflash::c6sup22-jk2sv-mz.121-27b.E1.bin"
open(): Open Error = -4
loadprog: error - on file open
boot: cannot load "bootflash::c6sup22-jk2sv-mz.121-27b.E1.bin"

If you can see my mistake well done . But I will point it out in anyway's, on the file name I have added an extra " : "!!!!!! grrrr I hear you say as well. Now my system will not boot as it is looking for a file that is not there thanks to my extra " : ". Can someone please help in fixing this issue as it is driving me a mad right now. Thanks to all who can help

PS..I have searched the web already for an answer and it has come back will nothing!!!!

Does that image need more memory that what is installed? Also, you may have a corrupt file download (it happens), download a fresh image and try again. Other things to try are remove one supervisor card if you have 2 and to blow out all the dust on the backplane where the cards seat into the chassis.

Hi Eric

Bring it up in RMON and then use the boot command to specify the correct file name

Also you flash may be incompatibly formatted or not getting fully connected in the slot. Try another flash card if you have one correctly formatted.

Error Message
Cannot open filename

Explanation
The burnimg command was entered, but the Cisco 6500 was unable to open the indicated image file.

Recommended Action
Make sure that the disk containing the image file is properly inserted into the Cisco 6500's drive. Check to make sure that you specified the correct filename for the image file with the burnimg command and that the filename is 8 characters or less. If the file still cannot be read, the file might have become corrupted. Contact Cisco to obtain another copy of the image file.
