In this section, you will use Ignite-UX to customize an operating system installation. Chapter 13: “Automating Installations” explains how to execute an installation with no interaction.

  1. Run the Ignite-UX GUI by executing this as root:

    /opt/ignite/bin/ignite

When the client has rebooted (using either bootsys or manual network boot) and is ready for installation, it appears as an icon labeled with its original hostname (if rebooted using bootsys), or by the hostname supplied by DHCP.

  2. Select or click on the client you want to install.

  3. From the Actions menu, select Install Client and click New Install.

The Ignite-UX GUI installation tabs appear. For more information, see “New Installation”

  4. On the Basic tab select HP-UX B.11.11 archive using the button adjacent to Configurations:.

  5. Ensure that the Root Disk, Root Swap and other fields are correct for your installation.

CAUTION: Any disks you select here are overwritten. If you have a disk with existing user information that you do not want to modify, add it manually after Ignite-UX has installed the operating system.
  6. On the Software tab, there are no changes needed because there is only an archive at this point so the dialog box is blank. A patch and application depot are added later in the process.

  7. Click on the System tab, and then click Set parameters now, which is adjacent to Final System Parameters:.

Fill in the appropriate data under Set Time Zone, Network Services... and optionally, Set Root Password.

  8. Click on the File System tab and verify the correct disk usage parameters are set. You can also add disks at this point or modify the disk and file system parameters.

NOTE: A newfs is performed on all selected disks.
  9. On the Advanced tab there are no changes needed at this time.

  10. When finished entering data, select Go!. Review the data in the configuration dialog box and select Go! again.

  11. To display client installation status, double-click the client on the Ignite-UX GUI during execution.

When the installation process is complete, the client should have the new operating system installed, a new kernel built, and the system rebooted and ready for use. Status of the client is shown on its icon, and in the status dialog box.

Ignite-UX determines the state of a client by reading the files in the /var/opt/ignite/clients/client directory. Seeing an icon on the Ignite-UX GUI does not mean that the client actually exists, only that its configuration and control files exist in the Ignite-UX directories. We can use this behavior to our advantage to reinstall systems. This means that if you are reinstalling a system that Ignite-UX has already installed, you may need to either execute bootsys again or boot the client from the Ignite-UX server.
