NAME

tand(), tandf(), tandl(), tandw(), tandq() — tangent functions of an argument specified in degrees

SYNOPSIS

#include <math.h>

double tand(double x);

float tandf(float x);

HP Integrity Server Only

long double tandl(long double x);

extended tandw(extended x);

quad tandq(quad x);

DESCRIPTION

tand() returns the tangent of x (x specified in degrees).

On PA-RISC systems, tand() may lose accuracy when x is far from zero.

tandf() is a float version of tand(); it takes a float argument and returns a float result.

Integrity Server Only

tandl() is a long double version of tand(); it takes a long double argument and returns a long double result.

tandw() is an extended version of tand(); it takes an extended argument and returns an extended result.

tandq() is equivalent to tandl() on HP-UX systems.

USAGE

To use these functions compile either with the default -Ae option or with the -Aa and -D_HPUX_SOURCE options.

To use (for Integrity servers) tandw() or tandq(), compile also with the -fpwidetypes option.

To use any of these functions, make sure your program includes <math.h>, and link in the math library by specifying -lm on the compiler or linker command line.

For more information, see the HP-UX floating-point guide for HP Integrity servers at the following site: http://www.hp.com/go/fp.

RETURN VALUE

tand(±0) returns ±0.

If x is ±INFINITY, tand() returns NaN and raises the invalid exception.

If x is NaN, tand() returns NaN.

ERRORS

No errors are defined.

STANDARDS CONFORMANCE

These functions are not specified by any standard.
